Individual household coal-fired heating appliances which is called as a “traditional stove” that are being used for heating and cooking is the key contributor to ambient particulate matter (PM) concentrations in Ulaanbaatar city. Air pollution may possibly harm populations in ways so subtle or slow. However, air pollution mainly affects the respiratory and inflammatory systems, but can also lead to more serious conditions such as heart disease and cancer. People with lung or heart conditions may be more susceptible to the effects of air pollution. The stove replacement program is a short term measure toward air pollution reduction in the city. As a result of the program for 2013 twenty nine thousand /29000/ high emission old stoves were made obsolete.
